About the First Utility Foundation
First Utility Foundation is an independent charity funded and created by First Utility, the UK’s largest independent energy supplier. Run by a board of independent trustees, we support projects that make a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable families and individuals across the UK by awarding grants to charitable initiatives that can deliver real improvement to quality of life.
We specifically support projects that:
- Change the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable families and children for the better
- Improve the quality of life for older people
- Make life better for people with disabilities
We have a particular focus on supporting initiatives that can demonstrate a track record in reaching marginalised communities and/or deliver innovative solutions to alleviate suffering.
While funded and supported by First Utility, we operate as an independent entity with a separate board of trustees that control the strategy and vision of the Foundation.
How we are funded
We are wholly funded by a profit donation from First Utility. It has pledged 1% of pre-tax profits to the Foundation each year, every year, as part of its commitment to help those in need.
This funding will be awarded in the form of grants to those charities which our board of trustees determine best meet the criteria and goals of the Foundation.
